Asian flu, or more properly called H2N2 flu, emerged in East Asia.
This virus, originating from that of avian influenza A, was composed of three different H2N2 virus genes including the hemagglutinin H2 and neuraminidase N2 genes.
Some sources believe it originated from a mutation of a wild duck virus, and was first reported in Gizhou province, spread to Singapore in February 1957, to Hong Kong in April 1957 and to the coastal cities of the United States in the summer of 1957.
In the same year a vaccine was prepared which managed to contain the disease, unfortunately only after having claimed about 2 million victims.
